CHAPEL HILL, NC — The North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Program has appointed new directors of undergraduate medical education at five AHEC campuses across the state.
The campus directors will work with AHEC clerkship directors based at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine and with UNC’s Office of Medical Education and other UNC faculty to sustain and improve medical student education at each of the sites.
The new campus directors are:
- Jeff Heck, Asheville, MAHEC
- Tricia White, Charlotte AHEC
- Bert Fields, Greensboro AHEC
- John Perry, Wake AHEC
- Mark Darrow, SEAHEC (Wilmington)
“All are long term UNC faculty members with outstanding track records in clinical care, teaching and administration,” said Dr. Warren Newton, chairman of UNC’s Department of Family Medicine, which has administrative oversight of these five AHEC campuses. “We are fortunate to have them.”
The mission of the North Carolina AHEC Program is to meet the state’s health and health workforce needs by providing educational programs in partnership with academic institutions, health care agencies, and other organizations committed to improving the health of the people of North Carolina.
