Scientists demonstrate link between genetic defect and brain changes in schizophrenia

Friday, Oct. 16, 2009 - Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine have found that the 22q11 gene deletion – a mutation that confers the highest known genetic risk for schizophrenia – is associated with changes in the development of the brain that ultimately affect how its circuit elements are assembled.

Coach Williams Raises $1 Million For Cancer Research

Friday, October 16, 2009 — In just five years, Coach Roy Williams has raised more than $1 million for cancer research, treatment and prevention programs in our community. These funds have been raised through Coach Williams’ highly successful Fast Break Against Cancer event, which was launched in 2004. Coach Williams also directed half of the proceeds from the sold-out UNC Alumni Basketball game to support cancer research at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.

UNC researcher awarded grant for anti-diarrhea vaccine study in Nicaragua
