Valerie Lucas is an Evaluation Research Assistant at CHER and Abacus where she primarily works on the RADx-UP (Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics, Under-served Populations) program. She is a recent graduate of UNC with a B.S. in Economics and a B.A. in Global Public Health. As an undergraduate, Lucas provided monitoring, evaluation and research support to Carolina for Kibera as a Peacock Fellow. She also successfully defended an anthropological thesis on the impact of economic inequality on social and mental health among community health volunteers on Kibera, an informal settlement on the outskirts of Nairobi. Lucas has volunteered with Community Empowerment Fund as a Community Engagement Coordinator and with Durham Volunteer Doulas as a postpartum doula.
