Jan Busby-Whitehead, MD, is program director and principal investigator; Ellen Roberts, PhD, MPH, serves as associate program director.<\/p>\n<p>Collaborating partners include the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncahec.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">NC Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Program<\/a> and all nine regional AHEC partners covering all of the 100 counties in North Carolina. Continuing education for health care professionals and families is provided by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arealahec.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\">Area L<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.charlotteahec.org\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\">Charlotte<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.easternahec.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\">Eastern<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gahec.org\" target=\"_blank\">Greensboro<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mahec.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\">Mountain<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/northwestahec.wfubmc.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Northwest<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southernregionalahec.org\" target=\"_blank\">Southern Regional<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seahec.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\">Southeast<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakeahec.org\" target=\"_blank\">Wake<\/a> AHECs along with the UNC Schools of <a href=\"\/\" target=\"_blank\">Medicine<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/nursing.unc.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Nursing<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/ssw.unc.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Social Work<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dentistry.unc.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Dentistry<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pharmacy.unc.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Pharmacy<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/sph.unc.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Public Health<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2010 continuing Geriatrics education through the CGWEP and its predecessor the Carolina Geriatric Education Center (CGEC) has trained almost 30,000 health professionals from all levels in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, social work, public health, dentistry, allied health, and health administration.<\/p>\n<p>The CGWEP is on the cutting edge of health care promoting evidence-based falls prevention trainings, developing practitioner core competencies in geriatrics and interprofessional practice and advocating for mental health for older adults.<\/p>\n<p>Core project components include: faculty development, curriculum development, continuing education, student training, and preparation of residents and fellows for effective geriatrics teaching and practice.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about Geriatric Education Centers check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.n-age.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\">National Association for Geriatric Education<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mission &amp; Goals Online Courses Meet Our Staff Center for Aging &amp; Health New Ventures: The Carolina Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program The Center for Aging and Health at UNC, received a 3 year grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration to integrate geriatrics into primary care and expand interprofessional education in geriatrics.
