\"\"Each year, the first full week of fall is marked as Falls Prevention Awareness Week. This year, that week is September 22-26, 2025. However, for 2025, the NC Falls Prevention Coalition will celebrate in a new way with 2025 Falls Prevention Awareness Month<\/a>\u00a0with STEPtember. Throughout this month, events hosted by local senior centers and councils for aging will raise awareness about falls.<\/p>\n

Specifically, STEPtember is a month-long walking challenge in which seniors are asked to count their steps. However it isn’t a competition. The goal is encouraging seniors to see the importance of being motion today for preventing future falls.<\/p>\n

In addition to step counting, there are other Falls Prevention Awareness events happening throughout North Carolina. One key event is the NC Falls Prevention Conference<\/a> on September 19 at the MAHEC Education Building in Asheville. This event will address both hi- and lo-tech approaches to falls prevention. Additionally experts from Wake Forest Baptist Health, Atrium Health, Winston-Salem State University, and Stewart Physical Therapy will gather at the Intergenerational Center for Arts & Wellness in Winston-Salem on September 24 for the second Annual Piedmont Area Falls-Free Expo<\/a>.<\/p>\n
