Dr. Christina Prather
Geriatrics Fellow, 2013-2014
I'm thrilled to be a first year Geriatric Medicine fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After completing medical school at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD, I moved to North Carolina to complete my Internal Medicine Residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It was a serendipitous move as I was introduced into the incredible community which is UNC and now I love it here!
Born and raised in Maryland just outside of the Washington, DC, I originally completed my academic training close to home. In 2005 I graduated from the University of Maryland College Park with a degree in Biological Resources Engineering and worked for a short time in prosthetics development before attending medical school in Baltimore. From my initial work in the engineering field through to my current role as a geriatrics fellow, I have always embraced a systems based approach to problem solving and diagnostic dilemmas. This in particular has served me well in my geriatric interests, which are centered around helping families and caregivers navigate the often challenging and complex tasks of caring for their loved ones. In residency it was often joked by my peers that I never knew what I wanted to do next, however it was indisputable that caring for the geriatric patient population was my next calling. I love it and am thrilled to be learning, teaching, and living with the UNC Geriatrics community.
