A top industry publication has named a program in the Division of Clinical Laboratory Science as number one among its competitors nationwide.
Top industry publication ADVANCE for Laboratory Managers has ranked the UNC School of Medicine’s Clinical Laboratory Science program as the number one program in the United States. The program is in the Division of Clinical Laboratory Science and is part of the UNC SOM’s Department of Allied Health Sciences.
“The faculty, students, and alumni of the clinical laboratory science program at UNC-Chapel Hill are thrilled to be named the top program in the country by the magazine,” Dr. Susan Beck, division director, said. “For more than 50 years, our program has prepared laboratory professionals who provide the laboratory tests and services that help diagnose, treat, and prevent disease. The CLS program has a long tradition of excellence, and we are committed to continuing that tradition in teaching, research, and service.”
Dr. Stephen Hooper, DAHS chair and associate dean in the UNC SOM, said in many instances, clinical laboratory scientists work behind the scenes to facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions. He said their work is critical and necessary to understanding the disease progress. “It is gratifying to see our program recognized for its important contributions to the education of these future professionals, and for what they will do for the field of medicine and patient care,” Hooper said. “I couldn’t be more proud of Dr. Beck, her faculty, and the program of excellence that they have created.”
