  • Rachel (Mauney) Addison (’89) addis003@mc.duke.edu “What a versatile career choice! I have worked as a bench level microbiologist, coordinator of the R&D section of microbiology at Duke, Project Manager of a global M.tb/NTM Drug Susceptibility Program run by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention and am now a clinical coordinator for Infectious Diseases at Duke in the areas of new diagnostic tests and drug therapies for fungal infections in transplant receipients. This is a wonderful career choice and the skills learned are in high demand in a variety of fields. On a personal note I am married to Todd Addison, a Durham native, and we have two children, Maggie 6, and Beck 2.”
  • Brad Carle (’89) “To echo a classmate’s comments, yes, this is an excellent career choice and the skills learned are in high demand. On LinkedIn you will see some techs have enjoyed bench work for decades, while others have had diverse careers. Best of luck to all and look for me on LinkedIn if you wish.” 3/2015

Med Tech students: As you can see, there are many jobs that Med Techs are perfectly suited for in the hospital and outside of the hospital. Your future is up to you and it will be wide open with a Med Tech degree!! Good Luck!!” 4/2010
  • Mark Hamby (’82) markhamby2006@msn.com “On October 2nd, 2020 I retired from Duke laboratory systems. 33 total years at Duke, the last 15 years at Duke Immunology lab. I still usher UNC football and basketball games also work part-time for a security company called Rhino. I’m enjoying retirement and would recommend it to anyone who has reached their full retirement age. I still live in Durham, NC but plan to move within the next 5 years. My advice to current students? Work hard but still enjoy the college experience. Get out of your comfort zone and try new things, meet different people and remember as long as you are polite and correct in your facts you can say about anything you want to say. Don’t be afraid to speak up for yourself!!” 9/2022
  • Kathleen (Brennan) Cole (’81) KBC2409@aol.com “Thanks for the new website. I was thrilled to find a way to contact an old classmate! I’ve tried the UNC alumni office before but had no luck. I received a second BA in Elementary Education in 2000. I am now in my 3rd year teaching first grade. I am the math/science specialist for our teaching team. I agree with other postings that our education at UNC gave us a passion for learning which I’m privileged to share with young children now.”

  • Wendy (Stout) Willey (’81)  “It is nice to see a couple of familiar student names from the class of 1981. I am currently the Lab Director for Confluence Health Laboratories in Wenatchee, Washington. This group includes 2 larger CAP accredited hospital-based labs and 2 smaller DOH accredited labs that I am responsible for. I fondly remember my professors and the students in the MT program, and have often wondered where their career paths led.” 08/2016
