All laboratories are on the first floor of the main hospital.
UNC Hospitals Blood Collection Center (Phlebotomy Clinical Practice)
The Blood Collection Center is on the first floor of the hospital, just at the top of the escalators from the ground floor/ main entrance. You should report at 8:30 am and ask for Bobby Honeycutt. You may be assigned to this collection area or sent to another area within the hospitals or the Ambulatory Care Center.
Carolina Pointe II (Phlebotomy Clinical Practice)
Carolina Pointe II is at 6013 Farrington Road, Suite 101. (This is near the intersection of Hwy 54 and I-40.) It is the same building as Urgent Care, and says “Radiology & Laboratory” on the outside. Report at 8:30 am and ask for Patrikar.
UNC Family Medicine (Phlebotomy Clinical Practice)
The UNC Family Medicine clinic is near the corner of Manning Drive and 15-501. You may take any of the buses that go around Bowles Drive; there’s an entry to FP from the parking loop that is closest to Manning. Parking at UNC Family Medicine is for patients only. Ask at the front desk for directions to the lab. Please arrive by 8:15.
Ambulatory Care Center (Phlebotomy Clinical Practice)
The Ambulatory Care Center (ACC) is at the corner of Columbia St and Mason Farm Rd; you can go there directly or there is a regular shuttle from the front of the hospital. Parking at the Ambulatory Care Center is for patients only. You should report to the ACC lab (ground floor) at 8:30 am, but depending on their staffing level you may be sent to another lab (main hospital, women’s or children’s).
Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center Laboratories
Enter the hospital through the “Patient Entrance”. Go through 2 sets of doors, then right through accordion doors to the elevator. Labs are on the 3rd floor.
Duke University Medical Center Laboratories
Special Hematology (Rm 0216 Duke South, Orange Zone): When you are facing the front entrance to Duke South/ Clinics you will see an older building to the left. Go to this building and take Entrance 2. Special Heme is down the steps to the left.
Coagulation (1520 Hudson Building): From the Duke North lobby, walk past the information desk on the right. Continue to the right of the elevators and take the hall to the immediate right (towards Eye center, Starbucks, Subway and DUHS Clinical Laboratories). Follow the “long” carpeted hallway toward DUH Clinical Labs. Straight ahead will be DCAL: Duke Central Automated Lab. (Hudson Bldg.)
Note: Go to the Central Specimen Drop-off window and have them call Coag. for us to open the door.
Microbiology: From the Duke North lobby, walk past the information desk on the right. Continue to the right of the elevators and take the hall to the immediate right (towards Eye center, Starbucks, Subway and DUHS Clinical Laboratories). Follow the “long” carpeted hallway toward DUH Clinical Labs. Microbiology will be on the right (Wadsworth Bldg.)
Transfusion Medicine: From the Duke North lobby, look for signs to the Emergency Department. You will walk toward the right down a hallway. About halfway down the hallway, there is an entrance to the ED on the left with signs for the Transfusion Service. Follow those signs to the lab.
