Understanding the Association Between Hearing Loss and Falls: Current Perspectives and Future Directions

Kristal M. Riska, AuD, PhD Assistant Professor, Duke University School of Medicine Department of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences will discuss falls and falls-related injuries result in substantial morbidity, mortality, and disability among older adults.

This presentation will discuss current knowledge on the association between sensorineural hearing loss & falls as well as a proposed mechanistic model. Preliminary results on whether the association is modified by hearing healthcare intervention (i.e., hearing aids and/or cochlear implants) will also be discussed.
