OT Spotlight – Cassie Fraser-Ball, Alamance Burlington School System!

Cassie Frazier-Ball, Alamance County Schools

Shout out to Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS) Occupational Therapist Cassie Fraser-Ball for spearheading the development of the ABSS Virtual Resource Hub for Exceptional Children and their families. The Hub lists resources primarily for middle and high school age students and is linked to the ABSS Website.

Cassie organized a team of ABSS OTs including Linda Blalock and Ruth Schallert as well as special education teachers to help gather information for the Hub. Categories of community agencies include Employment, Day Programming, Recreation, Transportation, Education, Transition, Community Supports, Family Supports, Health Care, Mental Health, Equipment, Advocacy, Legal/Financial, and Diagnosis Specific. Agencies are cross referenced across categories, each category has a picture icon and words for easy access. Agency information includes a video when provided, overview of services, purpose/mission, population served, services/programs/resources offered, costs/requirements to participate, and ways to access more information such as the agency’s website, facebook page etc.
Cassie organized, designed, formatted and entered information for the ABSS Virtual Resource hub. In addition, she coordinated and facilitated periodic team meetings to develop the hub.
Her vision is to provide families and students with a convenient, accessible, and helpful “ one stop source” to community agency information. The Hub is geared toward ABSS middle and high school students and their families who may be in the process of planning for life beyond high school. ABSS EC staff will use the Hub to familiarize themselves with community resources and to teach and educate students and families as well. Future plans are to translate information into Spanish, update information, and to add agencies to the Hub each year.
ABSS appreciates all the hard work and dedication that Cassie put into this very worthwhile project!
