Personal Statement

I joined the faculty of the Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences in 2007 after completing my AuD at the University of Kansas. I currently provide clinical services to a mostly adult population at the UNC Hearing and Communication Center several days a week, am adjunct faculty at the Carolina Institute of Developmental Disabilities and engage in clinical and classroom teaching in the UNC-CH AuD program. I believe that clinical practice is key to academic teaching in a professional program.  I bring to my practice the benefits of a diverse background which includes a research career in basic science and many years advocating for children and communities in the non-profit world. My interests, which include the interrelationship of cognition and hearing in aging, the genetics of hearing and balance, tinnitus evaluation and management, and the role of the profession of audiology in a changing healthcare landscape, reflect that background.
