The North Carolina Speech Hearing and Language Association has recognized two UNC-Chapel Hill speech-language Pathology students with prestigious awards.

 Margaret “Gretta” Richter received the NCSHLA Linguisystems Award. She is a graduate student in the SLP program at UNC-Chapel Hill who is an active member of the American Academy of Audiology, American Auditory Society, and NCSHLA. She is currently working as a research assistant in the UNC Cochlear Implant Clinical Research Lab and provides community services through several opportunities including the Walk for Hearing and the Healthy Hearing Special Olympics. She has already presented some of her research at the NCSHLA Fall Conference and continues to strive towards her goal of becoming a clinical researcher in the field of audiology.

Amanda Coats received the Student Achievement Award. She is a graduate student of speech-language pathology at UNC-Chapel Hill. She has had extensive internship experiences around North Carolina including Duke Regional Hospital, UNC Hospitals, and Morris Grove Elementary School. While maintaining strong academic credentials, she has given back to the community through activities with The Charles House Elder Center, Camp Royal, and the Carolina for the Kids Foundation. Her strong academic background coupled with her desire to help others will foster a highly successful career as a speech-language pathologist.
