Courtney earned her BFA in Studio Art from the University of Central Florida in 1998, after which she spent the next several years teaching art and art history to elementary and middle school students. While pursuing her teaching license, Courtney became fascinated with the study of cognitive development and education in early childhood, and in 2005, graduated with her MA in Educational Psychology, Measurement and Evaluation from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In the years following graduation, Courtney worked as a research assistant with the Early Childhood Outcomes Center at FPG Child Development Institute, taught art with North Carolina Public Schools, and even ran her own home-based preschool. She is very excited to be back at UNC where she will apply all she has learned to her work with the Preschool Writing Project. When not busy wrangling three-year-olds, Courtney enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, cooking, reading and writing fiction.
