Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

  • Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a program that mails a free book each month to children from birth to age five in participating communities within the United States and around the world. Click the link to register.
  • Good Night with Dolly”  Broadcasts live every Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. through April 30th. Dolly Parton reads books from the Imagination Library collection. Included with each video are activities and parent reading tips. Videos and activities from past events are also available.

Read-Along Mondays with Michelle Obama Broadcasts live every Monday from April 20th-May 11th at 12:00 p.m. Michelle Obama reads a storybook on PBS Kids’ Facebook page or YouTube.

Resources for Families in Need

Pick up Meals for Children Healthy Start Academy is partnering with Chicken Hut Restaurant to provide weekday breakfast and lunch meals for children ages 0 to 18 years of age.

Meals may be picked up from the Chicken Hut Restaurant (Located at 3019 Fayetteville Street, Durham, NC 27707) Monday through Friday until further notice.

  • Breakfast meals will be served between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.
  • Lunch meals will be served between 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m.

Sheetz Meal Program for Children  Offers free lunches (turkey sandwich, chips, and a drink) to children all day at ALL Sheetz locations.

Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina (Serves Durham and Orange County)

  • Orange County residents: The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina distributes food every Wednesday to Orange County residents, in partnership with the Chapel Hill Public Housing Office. All April distributions will be via drive-through service in the lower parking lot of the Chapel Hill Public Library located at 100 Library Drive.
    Dates, and times for April are:

    • April 8:   10:00am–12:30pm
    • April 15: 10:00am–12:30pm
    • April 22: 1:00–3:30pm
    • April 29: 10:00am–12:30pm
