Awards and Fellowships
NIH Fellowships
- NIAAA Diversity Supplements provide supplements to existing NIH-funded active grants to increase the diversity of the research workforce by supporting and recruiting students and postdoctoral and other new investigators from groups that underrepresented.
- Ruth L.Kirschstein National Service Research Award (NRSA) (F31). The purpose of the Kirschstein-NRSA program is to enable promising predoctoral students with potential to develop into a productive, independent research scientists, to obtain mentored research training while conducting dissertation research. The F31 is also used to enhance workforce diversity though a separate program.
- Blueprint Diversity Specialized Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Advancement in Neuroscience (D-SPAN) (F99/K00). This award supports the pre- to post-doctoral transition of diverse graduate students.
- BRAIN Initiative Advance Postdoctoral Career Transition Award to Promote Diversity (K99/R00). This award is designed to enhance biomedical research workforce diversity by supporting a mentored research experience (K99) followed by independent research (R00) for postdoctoral fellows working in research areas supported by the BRAIN Initiative.
- Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) Postdoctoral Career Transition Award to Promote Diversity (K99/R00). This award is designed to support a cohort of early career, independent investigators from diverse backgrounds conducting research in NIH mission areas. The long-term goal of this program is to enhance diversity in the biomedical research workforce.
Career Development
- SfN Neuroscience Scholars Program. This two-year program of the Society for Neuroscience is designed to help underrepresented graduate or post-doctoral researchers enhance their career and build community. Online mentoring and training are provided, as are two years of travel funding to attending the annual SfN conference.
Recognition of Excellence
- RSoA Dora Goldstein Diversity in the Sciences Award. This award from the Research Society on Alcoholism recognizes excellence in alcohol research and a commitment to diversity and mentoring.
Travel Funding
- RSoA Nadia Chaudhri Rising Scholar Awards. A travel award for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from backgrounds that are diverse, under-resourced, marginalized or traditionally under-represented in psychosocial and biomedical sciences to attend the Research Society on Alcoholism Annual Scientific Conference.
- RSoA Undergraduate Diversity Travel Award. A travel award for under-represented minorities to attend the Research Society on Alcoholism Annual Scientific Conference.
- ACNP Travel Award for Minorities and Women. A travel award for women and underrepresented minority groups to attend the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology Annual Scientific Conference.
