Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies Director Fulton T. Crews received the 2006 Mark Keller Honorary Award at the Lipsett Amphitheater in Bethesda, M.D., on November 7. <\/p>\n
This award, presented by the NIH National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, honors the late Mark Keller and recognizes outstanding scientists who have made significant and long-term contributions in alcohol abuse and alcoholism research.<\/p>\n
During the two-hour event at the National Institutes of Health, Crews presented his lecture, \u201cMechanisms of Neurodegeneration and Regeneration During Alcohol Addiction and Recovery.”<\/p>\n
Established in 1996, the award is given yearly and features a lecture by an outstanding alcohol researcher who has made contributions to our understanding of how alcohol affects the body and mind, how we can prevent and treat alcohol abuse and alcoholism, and how today’s scientific advancements can provide hope for tomorrow. Keller, who died in 1995, was a professor emeritus of alcohol studies at Rutgers University and a pioneer in the field of alcohol research.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
