Based on pilot research by resident Blair Herndon, and in collaboration with general surgery resident Joanna Grudziak, we are developing and implementing a multidisciplinary, formally evaluated, mandatory, hospital-wide, standardized central venous access device (CVAD) insertion course to improve outcomes and enhance patient safety. On December 8, 2014, interns from the Department of Anesthesiology participated in the pilot CVAD insertion course utilizing the Department of Anesthesiology’s central line task trainers (SimuLab). Facilitators for the pilot course included Drs. Blair Herndon, Candra Bass, Harendra Arora, and Priya Kumar. The course was well received by the learners and a resounding success! Stay tuned for further developments on this exciting endeavor.
