Chief Residents

Welcome to the University of North Carolina Anesthesiology Residency Program! UNC is a wonderful place to train where learners become well-rounded consultants of anesthesiology. Our residency program has a lot to offer and we’re excited to share what makes UNC a perfect place to call home.

UNC Hospitals is a Level 1 Trauma center located in the beautiful city of Chapel Hill within the Research Triangle. Residents spend the vast majority of their time at UNC Hospitals, an 800-plus-bed system consisting of N.C. Memorial Hospital, N.C. Children’s Hospital, N.C. Neurosciences Hospital, N.C. Women’s Hospital and the UNC Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The Clinical Base Year is tailored to the budding anesthesiologist and is comprised of rotations that offer a broad, yet pertinent, experience before entering the operating room. Thereafter, the Clinical Anesthesia years are spent caring for a diverse patient population, including North Carolina’s most complex patients. The abundant clinical experiences offered here allow you to develop and hone skills that will serve you well for the rest of your career. The educational experience is led by an outstanding group of faculty educators and the educational environment created here is truly a hallmark of our program.

But it’s not all work and no play! In addition to providing residents with exceptional training, UNC also offers all the perks of living in the Research Triangle. The Triangle, i.e. Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh, consistently ranks high on many “best” lists including “Best Places for Young Professionals” and “Best Places to Raise a Family”. The Triangle also offers a low cost of living, great job opportunities for spouses and a plethora of activities for everyone to enjoy. But don’t just take our word for it! Come visit us here in Chapel Hill and find out what UNC Anesthesiology and the Triangle have to offer.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have about our program. UNC attracts top candidates each year, and we look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence! GO HEELS!
