Welcome to the University of North Carolina Anesthesiology Residency Program!  UNC is a wonderful place to train where learners will become well-rounded, clinically adept consultants of anesthesiology.  Our residency program has a lot to offer, and we’re excited to share what makes UNC a perfect place to call home!

UNC Hospitals is a Level 1 Trauma center located in the quaint, beautiful city of Chapel Hill, within the Research Triangle.  Residents spend the vast majority of their time at UNC Hospitals, an 800-plus-bed system consisting of N.C. Memorial Hospital, N.C. Children’s Hospital, N.C. Neurosciences Hospital, N.C. Women’s Hospital, and the UNC Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The Clinical Base Year is tailored to the budding anesthesiologist, comprised of rotations that will offer a broad, yet pertinent, experience before entering the operating room.  Thereafter, the Clinical Anesthesia years are spent caring for a diverse patient population, including North Carolina’s most complex patients.  The abundant clinical experiences offered here allow you to develop and hone skills that will serve you exceptionally well for the rest of your career.  From day one, trainees are brought into a finely tuned educational experience with an outstanding, collegial group of educators. The educational environment created is truly a hallmark of our program and is the cornerstone of the UNC residency experience.

In addition to a program that provides residents exceptional training, UNC also offers all the perks of living in the Research Triangle!  The Triangle, i.e. Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh, has been named on several Top Ten lists of 2017 and 2018, including America’s Next Boom Towns, Best Places for Young Professionals, and Best Places to Raise a Family.  The Triangle offers a low cost of living, great job opportunities for spouses, and a plethora of activities for all to enjoy.

We would love for you to further explore what the UNC Anesthesiology program has to offer.   Please feel free to contact any of us with any questions you may have about our program.  UNC attracts top candidates each year, and we look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence!  GO HEELS!
