UNC Medical Center and UNC Rex will be launching a new Colorectal ERAS Clinical Pathway on Tuesday, May 21st, to help us provide the best possible outcomes for our patients.
About Clinical Pathways
Clinical Pathways are a new functionality in Epic@UNC that allow clinicians to track a patient’s progress through the surgical episode. The patient documentation drives suggested outcomes which help track pathway adherence and patient progress towards predefined outcomes. Physicians, nurses, and others from UNC Medical Center and UNC Rex have specifically built the Colorectal ERAS Clinical Pathway around the best available evidence so it can be used at all of the hospitals in our system.
Epic Clinical Pathways are a natural fit for ERAS care, which has been shown to reduce perceived pain, accelerate functional recovery, and shorten hospital stays. This will be the first of several Epic Clinical Pathways at UNC Health Care, as other leading systems across the country have seen tremendous success with this tool.
