
UNC Anesthesiology congratulates Associate Professor of Anesthesiology Sarah Linnstaedt, PhD, for being appointed in July 2026 as Co-Chair of the UNC School of Medicine’s Committee to Review Appointments and Promotions to Associate Professors on the Tenure Track. Dr. Linnstaedt is an established chronic pain basic researcher and leads UNC Anesthesiology Research’s highly regarded Linnstaedt Lab, which studies physiological stress biological mechanisms driving chronic pain development. At UNC, Dr. Linnstaedt was selected for the 2023-2024 Yang Family Biomedical Scholars Progam, which annually honors promising young UNC School of Medicine tenured faculty who have made significant scholarly contributions to their field and received national recognition for their research.
Within the University, Dr. Linnstaedt is a member of the Institute for Trauma Recovery, the Genetics and Molecular Biology curriculum, the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology curriculum, and the Carolina Stress Institute. Dr. Linnstaedt’s lab is supported by a rich, wide range of NIH grants, and her field honors in recent years have included NIH HEAL Director’s Trailblazer Award (2023) and the Rita Allen Foundation Pain Scholar Award (2020).
