She received her BSc from Virginia Tech, her PhD from Georgetown University, and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University. Following training, she joined the faculty at UNC and focused her career on understanding vulnerability factors for chronic pain and co-occurring adverse neuropsychiatric symptoms. Her lab is particularly interested in the role that molecular and genetic mechanisms play in posttraumatic chronic pain development.  Dr. Linnstaedt enjoys collaborating with the fantastic team of scientists in her lab as well as with other labs at UNC and across the globe. Her research is focused in three primary areas: 1) understanding causes and consequences of adverse childhood experiences and other forms of trauma and violence; 2) promoting access to substance use disorder treatment, particularly among pregnant and parenting people and the Medicaid population; and 3) evaluating the impacts of programs and policies that address social determinants of health on mental health, substance use, and violence. Her current research includes a focus on the intersection of these three areas with chronic pain. She received a PhD in maternal and child health and epidemiology from UNC Chapel Hill, MPH in chronic disease epidemiology from the Yale School of Public Health, and BS in statistics and BA in psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
