Thank you for your interest in supporting the clinical, research, and educational missions of the UNC Department of Anesthesiology.  To give to any of the funds listed below, click on the fund’s  accompanying link.  If you have questions or would like to give to another endeavor, please contact Lisa Johnson (Lisa_Johnson@med.unc.edu).  Donations can be directed to a specific goal or program and will be used as directed.

Anesthesiology Fund for Excellence (343626) – Each member of the UNC Department of Anesthesiology makes a commitment to excellence.  A gift to this fund gives us the flexibility to target initiatives that provide innovative anesthesia care to the citizens of North Carolina and promote the strategic objectives of the department.

Anesthesiology Education Fund (343627) – UNC Anesthesiology has a long tradition of training outstanding anesthesiologists.  Our ACGME-accredited program has well above the national average board pass rates.  The foundation of our specialty’s growth and success is rooted in our residency training program.  Donations to this fund support educational expenses for our residents and fellows, including visiting professors, high-fidelity simulation training, meeting support, academic enrichment programs, and journal clubs.

Anesthesiology Safety and Quality Improvement Fund (345857) – Safety and quality improvement are core values of UNC Anesthesiology.  The department conducts numerous lean six sigma improvement projects each year and is the health care system champion for its Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) initiative.  A donation to this fund promotes safety and quality in all areas of clinical practice through the use of improved patient care communication tools, software application development, data mining and quality improvement training.

Anesthesiology Research Fund (349473) – UNC Anesthesiology’s research portfolio includes a thematic, NIH-funded research program focused on improving pain outcomes and recovery after stress and trauma (UNC Institute for Trauma Recovery), a number of other investigator-initiated studies conducted by our outstanding faculty, and a growing industry-sponsored trials program.  Donations to this fund are directed to understanding the causes of acute and chronic pain and their treatments as well as recovery and pain management after traumatic injuries/events.

Edward A Norfleet, MD Professorship Fund (309344) – Dr. Ed Norfleet served selflessly as the chairman of the department from 2005 to 2008.  Donations to this fund are used to support the chair endowed in Ed Norfleet’s name in 2010 with the purpose of attracting and retaining an outstanding scholar, teacher and clinician within the Department of Anesthesiology, UNC school of Medicine.

Anesthesiology Department Malawi Fund (346177) – UNC Global Anesthesia partnered with 900-bed Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe, Malawi to elevate quality of anesthesia care quality and training across Malawi. Donations to this fund support higher-level medical education and training and KCH Anesthesia Clinical Officers and train UNC Anesthesiology residents and fellows in global anesthesia care. The fund also supports Q.I. projects and research opportunities.

UNC Anesthesiology is committed to providing the best possible care for our patients. Our team includes more than 300 individuals, including faculty, residents, fellows, CRNAs, anesthesia techs, nurse practitioners, researchers, and support staff.  We provide a full spectrum of expert anesthesia care to over 60,000 patients of all ages each year. We offer care for outpatient surgery, invasive inpatient procedures, elective operations and emergencies. We provide pre-operative care, care after surgery in the intensive care unit, and acute and chronic pain management.  In addition to providing outstanding clinical care, the Department is a national leader in education and research.  The Department teaches residents and medical students the specialty of anesthesiology, and through educational outreach programs educates the medical community on the highest standards of anesthetic care. Our research program, which includes substantial NIH funding, strives to improve those standards of care.

Thank you for supporting UNC Anesthesiology and areas across UNC Health and UNC School of Medicine!
