UNC Department of Anesthesiology congratulates Department Vice Chair of Research Matt Mauck, PhD, on his promotion to Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, with permanent tenure. Over almost 10 years at UNC, Dr. Mauck has built an extensive scholarly record leading major federally and industry-funded studies tracking the pathogenesis and fundamental molecular mechanisms of chronic pain following the transition from acute to chronic pain after traumatic injury and major thermal burn injury.  As P.I. of the NIH’s HEAL initiative’s Back Pain Consortium (BACPAC) Research Program, Dr. Mauck leads a funded network of 14 institutions that collaboratively conduct large-scale clinical studies aimed at developing individualized, multi-modal therapies for patients living with chronic lower back pain (cLBP).

As a neurosciences-trained physician scientist, Dr. Mauck provides comprehensive pain management and treatment to patients living in chronic pain at the UNC Pain Management Center.
