What drew you to UNC?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

I have always wanted to end up in Chapel Hill and at UNC.\u00a0 In researching places for residency, I was most taken back by UNC’s Anesthesiology Program. Not only would I receive the nation’s best education and far exceed my quota to become a top-tier anesthesiologist, but the residents truly seemed to like each other and prioritize hanging out outside of the hospital! I could tell there was a strong community within this program and I wanted to be a part of it. Further, I was very interested in their Global Anesthesia program which would allow me to develop my passion for anesthesia in international medical missions.<\/p>\n

What do you love most about the Triangle?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

How beautiful it is year-round! I come from the brutal Midwest and immediately fell in love with how lovely this area can be throughout the year. There is also so much to do! I can’t wait to bike and run every possible Strava route, given I have the time for it …<\/p>\n

What are your career aspirations?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

I look forward to being an anesthesiologist in the Navy for a few years following residency or fellowship graduation. I would love to be a part of a forward surgical team in a combat zone or a medical emergency response team in helicopters. After my time in the Navy, I aspire to integrate my love of travel, different cultures, and teaching into international medical missions. The ultimate dream would be to live in a family compound with my closest friends and work in the same surgery\/medical center as they do.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your go-to fun fact?:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

I’ve eaten kangaroo, in burger form, and immediately got food poisoning after it.<\/p>\n

If you weren\u2019t an anesthesiologist, what would you be?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

I would be a long distance running coach. I would start at the high school scene and work my way up to the collegiate level. After long years of working hard and winning a lot, I would then transition into coaching the marathon and triathlon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
