Bio<\/h3>\n

Dr. Hardman previously served as a subspecialty regional anesthesiology faculty member and residency program director at Duke University prior to his current appointment at UNC. His clinical expertise is in the area of regional anesthesia and pain medicine, along with liver transplantation and major vascular surgery. He is an expert in ultrasound-guided nerve blocks for regional anesthesia, including point of care ultrasound to assess cardiac, lung, gastric and abdominal function. Dr. Hardman has a special interest in nerve injury after peripheral nerve block, including the unique malpractice risks facing regional anesthesiologists, and has lectured internationally on this topic. He also regularly consults as an expert witness defending anesthesiologists who have experienced neurologic complications after administering peripheral nerve blocks.\u00a0 He has taught ultrasound guided regional anesthesia and anatomy at various workshops on a national and international level, utilizing both live models and cadaver specimens. He also has a special interest in physician payment systems and payment reform.<\/p>\n

Dr Hardman is a past-president of the North Carolina Society of Anesthesiologists, and currently serves as the Alternate Director from North Carolina to the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists committees on Economics; Health and Public Policy; Anesthesia Care Team; and Ad Hoc Committees on Point of Care Ultrasound and Alternative Payment Models.\u00a0 He is a member of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia Committee on Guidelines and Regulatory Affairs, as well as the 2020 Annual Meeting Program Committee.\u00a0 Most recently, he was appointed to the American Society of Anesthesiologists newly created Editorial Board on Point of Care Ultrasound, which will define and determine the elements of a Certificate of Completion in POCUS for anesthesiologists who have met these requirements.<\/p>\n

What was your greatest recent accomplishment?<\/h3>\n

Working on creating a national certificate of completion in Point-of-Care-Ultrasound (POCUS) for anesthesiologists.\u00a0 As one of twelve members of the ASA POCUS Editorial Board, we have created a content outline, with experience and CME requirements for this certificate, subdivided into 3 sections: cardiac, lung, and gastric ultrasound. Our board has created LMS modules for each section, written over 100 exam questions, and is currently in the process of beta-testing and validating the exam, with an expected rollout in January 2021.<\/p>\n

\nA phase 3b, randomized, open-label study of HTX-0ll as the foundation of a non-opioid, multimodal analgesic regimen to decrease opioid use following unilateral open inguinal herniorrhaphy.
