\nThe Department of Anesthesiology and the University of North Carolina Hospitals currently are approved for three one-year ACGME-accredited Pain Medicine fellowship positions. We consider candidates with primary training in Anesthesiology, Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, or Psychiatry. The department’s Interim Pain Medicine Fellowship Director is Professor of Anesthesiology Brooke Chidgey, MD<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Our group offers a compassionate, comprehensive, and multi-disciplinary approach to the management of patients with acute and chronic pain. We provide the full range of treatments ranging from analgesic management, psychological assessment and therapy, diagnostic and therapeutic pain procedures, and advanced interventional implant techniques. By referral, we have ready access within the UNC system to all other medical specialties, physical therapy, and practitioners of complementary therapies such as acupuncture.<\/p>\n

In addition to an excellent didactic program, we offer our primary clinical experiences at the UNC Pain Management Center (primary outpatient facility), UNC Imaging and Spine Center (interventional treatments), and at UNC Hospitals (pain consultation services and implanted therapies). We also offer outstanding research support through the Department of Anesthesiology’s Research Division.<\/p>\n
