Message from the Program Director<\/h3>\n

Welcome to the Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at the UNC Department of Anesthesiology! We are exceptionally proud of the training we have provided over the years since the fellowship welcomed its first fellow in 2000. Over that time, we have graduated over 40 pediatric trained anesthesiologists who practice in both academic and private practice in both rural and urban settings. Our ACGME-accredited program has trained fellows from across the country and attracts bright and promising physicians who are called to care for the most critically ill pediatric patients. We provide an environment that is stimulating, supportive, and challenging which has prepared our graduating fellows for successful careers.<\/p>\n

The size of our program is matched to an all-encompassing clinical experience, leaving time for scholarly activity and educational opportunities, such as simulation, ultrasound workshops, interdisciplinary journal clubs, and oral board training. Our 12 fellowship trained and\/or double boarded Pediatric anesthesiology faculty are diverse in experience and training and are engaged at local and national levels. Each is dedicated to the educational mission of staying up-to-date with ever emerging technologies such as regional anesthesia and point-of-care ultrasound. We provide care to over 10,000 children per year, ranging from open hearts, neurosurgery, neonatal surgeries, burn care, and airway surgeries to name just a few. We have excellent didactic programs and mentors to assist with research and other academic pursuits. Additionally, being so closely affiliated with our core program allows for us to take advantage of unique educational opportunities within the department, and to allow fellows to develop relationships both as mentors and mentees in their one year spent with us.<\/p>\n

We are a small program nestled in a beautiful college town, with access to all that the Triangle has to offer. UNC is located less than 30 minutes from the Raleigh Durham Airport, about 2 hours to the nearest beach, and about 3 hours to the nearest mountains. There is something for everyone here.<\/p>\n

I am truly proud of the people we work with, and the fellows that we have seen over the years develop into technically sound, compassionate, and clinically skilled pediatric anesthesiologists, many with leadership roles in their professional careers. I am always impressed by the dedication of our faculty to the mission to care for the children of North Carolina with all of their heart and minds. On behalf of our division, I thank you for taking a look at our program, and I hope we have a chance to meet you if you decide to apply to UNC.<\/p>\n
