Learn more about the goals of PSQI below!<\/p>\n<h3><span><span><span style=\"color: #333333\"><span>Patient Safety and Quality Improvement<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<div><span><span><span style=\"color: #333333\"><span><i>&#8220;The right care for the right person at the right time, the first time.&#8221; &#8211; Carolyn Clancy, Director, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><span><span style=\"color: #333333\"><span><i><br \/><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #333333\"><span>The Six Aims for Quality Improvement<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/anesthesiology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/470\/2017\/10\/psqi-graphic.jpeg\" style=\"text-align: center;line-height: 1.43em\" title=\"PSQI Graphic\" class=\"image-inline\" alt=\"PSQI Graphic\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><span><span><span style=\"color: #333333\"><span>1. Safety:  <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\" \"><span>Avoiding Injuries to patients from the care that is intended to help them. Patients ought to be as safe in health care facilities as they are in their own homes.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span><span><span style=\"color: #333333\"><span>2. Effectiveness: <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\" \"><span><span><span style=\"color: #333333\"><span \/><\/span><\/span><\/span><span>Providing services based on scientific knowledge to all who could benefit and refraining from providing services to those not likely to benefit (avoiding underuse and overuse respectively). The health care system should match care to science, avoiding both overuse of ineffective care and underuse of effective care.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span><span><span style=\"color: #333333\"><span>3. Patient-Centeredness: <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\" \"><span><span><span style=\"color: #333333\"><span \/><\/span><\/span><\/span><span>Providing care that is respectful of and responsive to individual patient preference, needs, and values and ensuring that patient values guide all clinical decisions. Health care should honor the individual patient, respecting the patient&#8217;s choices, culture, social context, and specific needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span><span><span style=\"color: #333333\"><span>4. Timeliness: <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\" \"><span><span><span style=\"color: #333333\"><span \/><\/span><\/span><\/span><span>Care should continually reduce waiting times and delays for both patients and those who give care.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span><span><span style=\"color: #333333\"><span>5. Efficiency: <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\" \"><span><span><span style=\"color: #333333\"><span \/><\/span><\/span><\/span><span>The reduction of waste should be never-ending, including, for example, waste of supplies, equipment, space, capital, ideas, and human spirit.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span><span><span style=\"color: #333333\"><span>6. Equity: <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\" \"><span><span><span style=\"color: #333333\"><span \/><\/span><\/span><\/span><span>Providing care that does not vary in quality because of personal characteristics.
