These medications target treat pain in a variety of ways. When the pills are taken together, they are known to provide more effective pain control.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.43em; \">Temporary, continuous nerve block catheters will be placed in your leg by the anesthesia team just before surgery. These catheters release pain medication around your nerves to reduce pain related to the operation. The catheters will stay in place after the surgery for a few days for pain relief.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-group\">\n<div class=\"accordion-heading\"><a class=\"accordion-toggle\" href=\"#collapseTHREE\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion2\"> During Surgery<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-body collapse\" id=\"collapseTHREE\">\n<p class=\" \">You will receive a single dose of antibiotics to prevent an infection before the procedure.<\/p>\n<p class=\" \">You will receive anesthesia care according to best practice recommendations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Individualized blood pressure management<\/li>\n<li>Prevention of blood clots<\/li>\n<li>Careful IV fluid administration<\/li>\n<li>Sedation and pain medication administration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>Ideally, the operation will be completed with<a class=\"external-link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.asra.com\/page\/41\/regional-anesthesia-for-surgery\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\"> regional anesthesia<\/a> instead of general anesthesia<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-group\">\n<div class=\"accordion-heading\">\n<div class=\"accordion-heading\"><a class=\"accordion-toggle\" href=\"#collapseFOUR\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion2\"> After Surgery<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"accordion-body collapse\" id=\"collapseFOUR\">\n<ul>\n<li>If you had a foley catheter (a catheter in your bladder to drain urine) placed before the surgery, it will be removed the day after surgery unless otherwise specified by your surgical team.<\/li>\n<li>You will be allowed to eat and drink normally after surgery<\/li>\n<li>On the day of your surgery, you will be helped to sit up on the side of bed with a limb guard to eat your meals.<\/li>\n<li>On the day after surgery, you will be evaluated and treated by a physical therapist. You will work on getting out of your hospital bed and into a chair.
