\nThe regional anesthesia division ensures that pain management is optimized for all patients undergoing surgical procedures at UNC. A pain management plan is developed for every surgical procedure. In some cases, a combination of interventions are necessary to optimize recovery, which may include a regional nerve block procedure. The UNC team provides the highest level of expertise available in the country.<\/p>\n

Regional anesthesia educational initiatives in the division are top notch. UNC\u2019s anesthesiology residents gain experience with nerve block procedures that far surpasses the expectations set forth by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education. Additionally, UNC offers a one-year fellowship in regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine. This program is designed to train the future leaders in the subspecialty. Teaching is a priority for the division and supported by the department.<\/p>\n

Lastly, the division has a strong record of research and scholarly activity. Experienced regional anesthesia faculty hold leadership positions and the department have developed a support infrastructure for mentorship, grant funding, and career development.
