On November 15th, UNC Anesthesiology staff were introduced to Roper Hall, UNC’s new state-of-the-art medical education building housing dedicated spaces for teaching clinical skills, simulation hands-on learning, and human structure laboratory knowledge to residents and medical campus students. In a lab suite on Roper Hall’s Simulation Floor, UNC Anesthesiology staff observed how to triage an admitted patient in distress complaining of chest pains from an SIM lab instructor-led demonstration using an interactive patient dummy. With four volunteer staff as a clinical team, a medical campus instructor led the group through working together when weakening vital signs leads to rapid decision-making in opening a patient’s airways to supply oxygen and intubate, and in an extreme event, applying chest compressions.<\/p>\n
Similar to the residency program’s annual CA-1 Family Anesthesia Day giving anesthesiology resident support persons hands-on opportunities to understand how residents learn via simulation, UNC Anesthesiology staff greatly benefitted this November from their group outing to Roper Hall!<\/p>\n
