At an event marking 50 years of progress in &#8220;honoring our legacy and building our future&#8221; in regional anesthesia and pain medicine, several UNC Anesthesiology faculty in the field were recognized for their contributions to the specialty:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Associate Professor of Anesthesiology <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/anesthesiology\/directory\/daniel-mcmillan\/\"><strong>Daniel McMillan, MD<\/strong><\/a>, and Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/anesthesiology\/directory\/sandeep-dhanjal\/\"><strong>Sandeep Dhanjal, MD<\/strong><\/a>, were chosen as recipients of the 2025\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/asra.com\/about-asra\/recognition-awards\/excellence-in-education-award\"><strong>ASRA Pain Medicine Excellence in Education Award<\/strong><\/a>. This annual award honors physician educators who have demonstrated innovation, impact, and sustained excellence in teaching regional anesthesia and\/or pain medicine and who exemplify outstanding commitment to education through innovation and effectiveness in knowledge delivery.\u00a0 UNC Anesthesiology Chair <strong>Ted Sakai, MD, PhD, MHA, FASA<\/strong>, noted: &#8220;Drs. McMillan and Dhanjal have each shown unwavering dedication to education and mentorship, and this recognition highlights their influential contributions to shaping the next generation of anesthesiologists.&#8221;<br \/>\nUNC Professor of Anesthesiology and UNC Regional Anesthesia Division Chief <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/anesthesiology\/directory\/stuart-grant\/\"><strong>Stuart Grant, MB ChB<\/strong><\/a><span class=\"markve0qxoro0\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\"><strong>,<\/strong> had two major honors at the spring <a href=\"https:\/\/asra.com\/events-education\/ra-acute-meeting\">50th Annual Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Meeting<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"markve0qxoro0\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">\u00a0<span class=\"markv03w5iunr\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">ASRA<\/span>&#8216;s Board of Directors named Dr. Grant <\/span>to the organization&#8217;s executive track. In this role, Dr. Grant will serve first as Treasurer, followed by President-Elect, and ultimately as President of <span class=\"markv03w5iunr\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">ASRA<\/span>\u00a0Pain Medicine.<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Grant a<span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">bstract overviewing a<\/span><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\"> 20-day sensory radiofrequency (RF) nerve block d<\/span>eveloped under his leadership was named <strong>one of the ASRA meeting&#8217;s <\/strong><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\"><strong>three \u201cBest of Meeting\u201d abstracts<\/strong>. Dr. Grant&#8217;s innovative, first-of-kind nerve block was developed as a proof\u2011of\u2011concept series demonstrating that targeted RF at &gt;20\u202fkHz can silence nociceptive pathways for three weeks, with no measurable motor weakness or proprioceptive drift (intact motor function). This groundbreaking development paves the way for long\u2011duration, post\u2011op pain patient relief without crutches, falls, or bulky braces.<\/span>Dr. Sakai noted: &#8220;Dr. Grant&#8217;s involvement with ASRA aligns with the organization&#8217;s commitment to high-quality education, exemplified by its flagship journal, <em>Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine<\/em>, and its prestigious research grants. This is a momentous achievement for both Dr. Grant and UNC Anesthesiology. We are immensely proud of his selection\u00a0 to the ASRA&#8217;s executive track and look forward to Dr. Grant representing our department with distinction, further enhancing our already outstanding national reputation.&#8221;Regarding Dr. Grant&#8217;s nerve block breakthrough, Dr. Nanda stated, &#8220;<span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">It&#8217;s rare that our field sees a technique developed with this kind of upside and such a clean safety profile.
