For the 2026-2027 awards cycle, the Office of Faculty Affairs&#8217; Committee on Faculty Leaves and Awards granted Dr. Hart $10K for his 12-month project entitled: <em>\u201cStandardizing and Strengthening Debriefing in Anesthesiology Simulation: Faculty Development, CRM Integration, and Measured Impact.\u201d \u00a0<\/em>Dr. Hart\u2019s project aims to elevate the quality and consistency of clinical faculty debriefing practices within the <strong>UNC Anesthesiology Simulation Program through <\/strong><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9374 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/anesthesiology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/470\/2018\/05\/HartWilliamMichael-e1693414741290.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"240\" \/><\/strong>closing gaps where simulation scenarios used by teaching faculty are well-established, though vary widely, often emphasizing clinical events over reflective learning or crisis resource management (CRM) principles.<\/p>\n<p>Over 12-month award period, Dr. Hart will undergo advanced debriefing training through <strong>The Center for Medical Simulation\u2019s Advanced Instructor Course<\/strong> to acquire faculty leadership skills to guide and oversee standardization of debriefing practices across the department.\u00a0\u00a0From the advanced debriefing training, Dr. Hart will design and implement a <strong>standardized debriefing toolkit<\/strong> that incorporates evidence-based frameworks such as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/debrief2learn.org\/pearls-debriefing-tool\/\">PEARLS<\/a><\/strong> and advocacy\u2013inquiry, with explicit integration of Crisis Resource Management (CRM) concepts.
