Dr. Eric Zwemer, MD

Associate Professor, Pediatrics
Term: 2021 – 2024

 

Dr. Zwemer completed his undergraduate work at Princeton University, received his MD from Harvard Medical School, and completed his residency and Chief Residency at Boston Children’s Hospital before coming to UNC in 2015. He is a Pediatric Hospitalist and Associate Program Director for the UNC Pediatrics Residency.  He also serves as the Director of Junior Faculty Scholarship for the Pediatric Hospital Medicine division and the Associate Chair for Faculty Development in Education for the Department of Pediatrics.  His medical education interests include developing resident-as-teacher programs, on-the-fly teaching at the bedside, and teaching through vulnerability and sharing of mistakes.  In an effort to bolster his medical education scholarship skills, he is currently completing a Masters of Education in the Health Professions through the Johns Hopkins School of Education.  Dr. Zwemer has been highly involved in the AOE for the past four years, serving on the Leadership Council and as the Programming Committee Chair and the Director of Strategic Initiatives. He states, “The tremendous progress made by the AOE since its beginning has allowed the organization to meet the needs of many more members.  We don’t make this progress alone – we make it together.
