Summary: The unexpected pandemic affected private and professional lives of all populations, including patients, carers, health workforce, learners, and teachers. The sudden shift towards Digital Health and Digital Education caused by the pandemics has a yet unassessed impact on knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes of all Health Professions (HP), as well as on their mental health needs. While working on adjusting the education to the necessary digital acceleration, we should be constantly focusing our efforts on developing appropriate professional qualities and supporting the reflective practice of the health workforce, including competencies related to patient centredness, empathy, communication and intercultural skills. Moreover, the focus on meant health needs in line with the modern HP education frameworks and the WHO flagship initiatives.

As we are currently living in a so called “ocular centric” era, with Instagram, Snapchat and Tik-Tok  dominating over textual communication, using visual arts to dedicate some mindful time to ourselves, may support better understating of the own and patients’ complex wellbeing needs.

We will use the AMEE / CMedEd Lodz joint project “COVID-19 Understanding own feelings via photography” as the starting point for discussing how the HP students’ artistic expression may enhance the development of their self- reflection and  holistic approach to patients. Also, we will present multiple visual expression- based interventions including workshops on empathy, intercultural competence and dealing with stress and burnout in education.

We encourage all participants to share their own experience in this field. Please, e-mail us before the seminar at paulina.sobieranska@umed.lodz.pl
