CANCELLED: Panel – The Prison Care Project: Understanding the Medical Learner’s Journey through the Correctional Health Complex

April 2, 2020 @ 5:00 PM - 6:15 PM

This event has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for the summer.

Join us for a co-sponsored panel from Clinical Ethics and the AOE, “The Prison Care Project: Understanding the Medical Learner’s Journey through the Correctional Health Complex.”
By the end of the panel, participants will be able to:
(1) understand the complex ethical dilemmas faced by medical trainees in delivering healthcare to incarcerated patients; (2) recognize how the limited autonomy of incarcerated patients creates an environment that renders incarcerated patients vulnerable to exploitation for the benefit of medical education and research;
(3) Equip preceptors with strategies to mitigate the problem of dual loyalties experienced by healthcare providers treating incarcerated patients; and

4) recognize how, absent targeted vulnerable populations training, institutional policies and attending physician biases can create a culture of care that delivers sub-standard medical treatment to incarcerated patients.

Hors d’oeuvres and drinks from the Root Cellar will be served.
