There are a variety of simulation modalities beyond utilizing a low- or high-fidelity mannequin. There are computer-based simulations (aka “serious games”), virtual patients, task trainers, and standardized patients. Each modality has its benefits and drawbacks. However, structured correctly, these modalities can be utilized to enhance the delivery of content to learners.

By the end of this session, learners will be able to:

• Describe other modalities of simulation outside of mannequin-based simulation
• Match simulation modality with appropriate broad-based objectives
• Outline an interactive exercise utilizing a simulation modality beyond mannequin-based simulation
