The Teaching As a Resident: Highlighting the Evidence and Enthusiasm of Learning program, also known as “TAR HEEL,” offers residents (AOE members and non-members) the opportunity to participate in a standardized program to improve cross-department collaboration, enhance engagement between faculty and residents, and increase academic scholarly projects and publications, beneficial to enhancing educational scholarship. This curriculum augments residents’ teaching skills in mentoring and educating learners across the UNC Hospitals and the Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) system.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

TAR HEEL is hosted in throughout the fall and the spring. Sessions occur via Zoom, allowing resident participation from various Area Health Education Centers across NC. Though synchronous participation is strongly encouraged, all sessions are recorded. AOE faculty members teach sessions from a variety of specialties.<\/p>\n

The TAR HEEL Program is co-directed by Taylor Carter (Surgery Resident), Winston Li (Psychiatry), and Hillary Spangler (Medicine-Pediatrics; TAR HEEL Program alum).
