BIOSKETCH
\n<\/strong>Dr. Shilliday received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from UNC-Wilmington in 1994 and her Doctor of Pharmacy\u00a0degree from Campbell University in 1998. She completed a Primary Care Specialty Residency with the VA Medical Center in\u00a0Salisbury, NC in 1998. Dr. Shilliday was hired as co-coordinator of the UNC Hospitals Pharmacy Diabetes Care Program in\u00a0August 1996. Currently she is employed with the UNC School of Medicine, Division of General Medicine and UNC Eshelman\u00a0School of Pharmacy and UNC Health Care. She serves as the director for the UNC Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency. She\u00a0is the Director of the General Internal Medicine Enhanced Care programs with her main clinical service within the\u00a0Anticoagulation clinic. Other chronic diseases include providing clinical services in diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia,\u00a0smoking cessation, and congestive heart failure. In January 2013 Dr. Shilliday was appointed the Director of the Advanced\u00a0Practice Provider (APP) Center to provide oversight, coordination and improved integration of APPs across inpatient and\u00a0ambulatory settings at the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill and the surrounding community. She is responsible for\u00a0credentialing, competency, education, compliance, and consistency of and expectations of patient services delivered by APPs\u00a0within both UNC Hospitals and UNC School of Medicine at the UNC Medical Center entity of the UNC Health Care System. Dr.Shilliday\u2019s research interests include the impact of health literacy on clinical outcomes, implementation of new clinical practicemodels and quality improvement. Dr. Shilliday is originally from Asheboro, North Carolina. She is married and has three\u00a0children. Outside of work, she enjoys playing with her kids and visiting the beach.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>Anticoagulation, diabetes, smoking cessation, cardiovascular disease, chronic disease management, and health literacy<\/p>\n

RESEARCH SUMMARY
\n<\/strong>As a clinical pharmacist practitioner, I am interested in chronic disease state management utilizing the collaborative\u00a0management models of practice. I am also interested in the impact of low literacy on health related outcomes. Current research\u00a0includes: predictors of time in therapeutic range for outpatients on warfarin, patient satisfaction with Medicare wellness visits\u00a0provided by a Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner; design and implementation of medication protocols to substitute potentially\u00a0inappropriate medications in an elderly population with safer therapies; evaluation of appropriate medication use in systolic heart\u00a0failure patients; patient outcomes in a hospital follow-up clinic; and CQI initiatives in a primary care anticoagulation clinic.<\/p>\n
