{"id":4226,"date":"2021-08-04T22:39:17","date_gmt":"2021-08-05T02:39:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/app\/?page_id=4226"},"modified":"2025-09-18T13:23:48","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T17:23:48","slug":"app-nursing-student-rotations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/app\/app-student-rotations\/app-nursing-student-rotations\/","title":{"rendered":"APP Nursing Student Rotations and APP Anesthesiology Student Rotations"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"page-header\">\n<h3 class=\"page-title\">Rotation Procedures for NP, CNM, DNP, MSN, SRNA and SAA Students<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"introText \">\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>All APP Nursing and APP Anesthesiology student clinical requests, placements, contracts, compliance and on boarding MUST be coordinated through the APP Center.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>APP students MUST follow the APP Center Student Rotation Procedures detailed on this website to be considered for a clinical rotation at UNC Hospitals.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Participation in a rotation MUST begin with the completion of the online rotation request application located on this website.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>UNC Hospitals Sites ONLY include UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, UNC Hospitals Hillsborough Campus, YBH Butner, as well as all UNC SOM clinics.\u00a0 <em>UNC Rex, Chatham Hospital and UNCPN are NOT part of UNC-Hospitals\/SOM clinic locations<\/em> where the APP Center places students.\u00a0 Schools need to contact those UNC Health sites separately as they are separate entities and have their own student placement processes.<\/p>\n<p>APP Center Preceptors:\u00a0 Advance practice providers (NPs, PAs, CNMs, CAAs, CRNAs) who have been employed by UNC-Hospitals\/SOM Clinics for at least 6 months.\u00a0 It is important to note that Physicians are not APPs and are not in the pool of APP Center Preceptors.\u00a0 While Physicians are out of scope for the APP Center to actively place students, an APP student who is precepted by a Physician MUST be on boarded by the APP Center.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Prioritization of Requests<\/h3>\n<p>Rotations are NOT based on first-come first-served basis.\u00a0 APP nursing student rotation requests MUST adhere to the application deadlines and are prioritized as follows:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>UNC-Chapel Hill students<\/li>\n<li>UNC Health employees<\/li>\n<li>Other UNC system schools<\/li>\n<li>Other in state schools<\/li>\n<li>NC residents attending out of state programs<\/li>\n<li>Out of state students in out of state programs<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Important Deadlines<\/h3>\n<p>Due to the high volume of NP, CNM, DNP and MSN student clinical rotation requests, requests must only be placed during specified date ranges so that the requests can be prioritized by the APP Center.\u00a0 NP, CNM, DNP, and MSN students must apply during the appropriate time period based on the start date of the rotation.\u00a0 Use the chart below to determine when to apply.\u00a0<strong> If you have more than one rotation request, you MUST submit a separate application for EACH rotation<\/strong> request.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT NOTES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There are <strong>LIMITED opportunities for Primary Care rotations<\/strong> at UNC Hospital\/SOM Clinics (pediatrics or adult).\u00a0 We are a Hospital with SPECIALTY Clinics and limited primary care.<\/li>\n<li><strong>General OBGYN rotations are EXTREMELY LIMITED.\u00a0 <\/strong>\u00a0NOTE:\u00a0 General OBGYN rotations are ONLY for students who are focused on Women\u2019s Health for their career or who have prior Women\u2019s Health experience.\u00a0 General OBGYN does not precept FNP students who need to fulfill a general women\u2019s health requirement without an interest in women\u2019s health.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>NOTE:\u00a0 Applications are ONLY accepted for the UPCOMING academic period.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em>The APP Center ONLY reviews rotation request applications that are submitting during the time periods listed on the table.\u00a0 <\/em><em>\u00a0Requests\u00a0for rotations\u00a0beyond the next academic cycle will NOT be considered:<\/em><\/p>\n\n<table id=\"tablepress-4\" class=\"tablepress tablepress-id-4\">\n<thead>\n<tr class=\"row-1 odd\">\n\t<th class=\"column-1\">Rotation Start<\/th><th class=\"column-2\">Submit Rotation Request Application <\/th><th class=\"column-3\">Rotation Notification <em>(email from APP Center)<\/em><br \/>\n<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody class=\"row-hover\">\n<tr class=\"row-2 even\">\n\t<td class=\"column-1\">Fall Rotations<br \/>\n(August -
