<\/p>\nIn her current role as oncology precision medicine clinical pharmacist practitioner, Dr. Bates is leading a precision medicine program within UNC Healthcare. The UNC Healthcare precision medicine program focuses on targeted cancer treatments and using molecular information such as DNA to design a care plan. Dr. Bates works to support clinicians within the hematology\/oncology service line to practice precision medicine at the point of care and integrate innovative targeted therapies that improve patient care.<\/p>\n

She has served her profession nationally in a variety of leadership capacities, including as Vice Chair and Chair of the American Society of Health-system Pharmacists (ASHP) Council on Therapeutics, Chair of the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists Executive Committee, and a member of the Women in Pharmacy Leadership Steering Committee. Dr. Bates is also an active member of the Hematology Oncology Pharmacist Association (HOPA), for which she has served on multiple committees, is part of a task force evaluating the scope of practice for oncology pharmacists, and was principle investigator for a study evaluating pharmacist led consultative services for first cycle chemotherapy education and medication management. Dr. Bates has a passion for advancing pharmacy practice through education that is rooted in the belief that learning improves lives. A pioneer of the layered learning practice model, she has led four pilot studies on layered learning at the UNC Medical Center (of which two have been published) and has presented on this work locally as well as at the ASHP National Pharmacy Preceptor Conference. Dr. Bates is dedicated to the education of new pharmacy practitioners and serves as teacher and mentor to four oncology pharmacy residents annually as part of her residency program director role. Dr. Bates was recognized for her achievements and contributions to pharmacy practice when she was selected as the inaugural recipient of the Milton W. Skolaut Leadership Award bestowed by Duke University Medical Center and named a fellow by the American Society of Health-system Pharmacists.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
