The University of North Carolina (UNC) Health Beacon Program provides trauma informed, coordinated care to UNC Health <\/a>System’s patients, families, and employees experiencing a variety of interpersonal abuse. It includes services for children<\/a>, victims of domestic abuse<\/a>, or intimate partner violence (IPV), human trafficking<\/a>, sexual assault<\/a>, and the elderly and vulnerable populations<\/a>. The program provides a wide variety of services designed to support our patients’ health and safety.\u00a0 Any patient or UNC Health employee who has experienced physical abuse, threats, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, or other violence is eligible.<\/p>\n

Services can be provided at all UNC Health facilities virtually. In-person services are only available at the UNC Medical Center.<\/p>\n

Our Goal: To provide services that help break the cycles of interpersonal and family violence, to promote ongoing and quality education for staff and provide trauma-informed patient care.<\/p>\n

As a part of our commitment to caring, UNC Health should always be a safe place for patients to disclose any trauma that they have experienced, particularly those that may interfere with their health goals. The Beacon Program is available to help any patients, family members of patients, and employees who have been impacted by intimate partner and family violence.
