CLark,<\/strong> a student in the Department of English and Comparative Literature, is the recipient of the 2018 McLendon-Thomas Award.<\/p>\n<p>Michael presented his winning essay \u201c<strong>The Fabrica, the Epitome, and Issues of Accessibility in Early Modern Anatomy<\/strong>,\u201d\u00a0at the Bullitt Club meeting on February 26, 2019.<\/p>\n<h3>2016 Award<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Angela Ning,<\/strong> a student in the School of Medicine, is the recipient of the 2016 McLendon-Thomas Award.<\/p>\n<p>Angela presented her winning essay, \u201c<strong>Christine Jorgensen: Moving Forward through Action, Not Words<\/strong>,\u201dat the Bullitt Club meeting on April 18, 2017.<\/p>\n<h3>2015 Award<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Scott Nelson,<\/strong> who graduated from UNC with a BA in History in 2015, is the recipient of the 2015 McLendon-Thomas Award.<\/p>\n<p>Scott\u2019s presented his winning essay, \u201c<strong>Snatching Bodies, Making Doctors: Stealing black corpses for medical education in the nineteenth- and early twentieth-century American South<\/strong>,\u201d\u00a0at the Bullitt Club meeting on April 12, 2016.<\/p>\n<h3>2014 Award<\/h3>\n<p><b>John Runge, <\/b>PhD student in Genetics and Molecular Biology, is the recipient of the 2014 <b>McLendon-Thomas Award.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>John presented his winning essay, &#8220;<strong>Character Trials: Managing Epidemic Disease in the 19th Century American South,<\/strong>&#8221; at the Bullitt Club meeting on March 24, 2015.<\/p>\n<h3>2012 Award<\/h3>\n<p><b>Sarah Frush<\/b> and <b>Christopher Jensen<\/b>, MD students in the UNC School of Medicine, are co-recipients of the fifth annual McLendon-Thomas Award.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah\u2019s winning essay is entitled, <b>\u201cHarmel\u2019s Happenstance: the First Blalock-Taussig Shunt and the Beginnings of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Chris presented his winning essay, <b>\u201c\u2018And Polio Was a Nightmare\u2019: Polio, UNC-Chapel Hill, and the North Carolina Memorial Hospital\u201d <\/b>at the Bullitt Club meeting on April 7, 2015.<\/p>\n<h3>2010 Award<\/h3>\n<p><b>Chailee Mann-Stadt<\/b>, MD student in the UNC School of Medicine, was the recipient of the third annual McLendon-Thomas Award.<\/p>\n<p>Chailee presented her winning essay, <b>\u201cDrs. Dewey and Milligan: Early Women in American Medicine,\u201d<\/b> at the January 13, 2011 meeting of the Bullitt Club.<\/p>\n<h3>2009 Award<\/h3>\n<p><b>Chris Dibble<\/b>, MD\/PhD student in the UNC School of Medicine, was the recipient of the second annual McLendon-Thomas Award.<\/p>\n<p>Chris presented his winning essay, <b>\u201cThe Dead Ringers: Medicine, Poe, and the Fear of Premature Burial,\u201d<\/b>\u00a0at the December 10, 2009, meeting of the Bullitt Club.<\/p>\n<h3>2008 Award<\/h3>\n<p><b>Chris Dibble<\/b>, MD\/PhD student in the UNC School of Medicine, was the first recipient of the McLendon-Thomas Award.<\/p>\n<p>Chris presented his winning essay, <b>\u201cEdward Livingston Trudeau: The First American Physician-Scientist and the Fight Against Tuberculosis,\u201d<\/b>\u00a0at the November 17, 2008, meeting of the Bullitt Club.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>McLendon-Thomas Award in the History of Medicine Recipients 2022 Award Mandy Fowler, a student in the Department of English and Comparative Literature, is the recipient of the 2022 McLendon-Thomas Award.
