From now on, we’ll be sending out bi-weekly DEI event emails. Is there an event you would like to share or celebrate? Feel free to reach out to me or anyone on the Culture and Intra/Intergroup Relations subcommittee! Please look out for an email in early November about this month’s cultural event.
Starting off is November – National Native American Heritage month. We’d like to share with you this article from the National Museum of Native American titled Unlearning Columbus Day Myths: Celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Additionally, you can schedule a campus tour to learn about the presence of Native Americans at UNC or explore this interactive map to learn more about Native American territories, languages and treaties. If you’d like to take a trip outside Chapel Hill, check out the Town Creek Indian Mound, which is ~1.5 h drive from UNC.
We also want to highlight some activities on- and off-campus for the first half of November. Please find attached the poster for the Free Jazz concert next Wednesday from the UNC Javanese Gamelan and Angklung Ensemble, featuring one of our own BCBP colleague Shu Zhang!
