1)    101 Bias training on BCBP

1 hour training on April 22, 2021, total of 57 participants. This training opportunity was delivered by Drs. Nate Thomas and Stephanie Brown. It was offered to Faculty, staff and students in BCBP. This training was required as the minimum Bias training to Faculty in BCBP who had not previously done Bias training. 90% BCBP faculty attended this training. If you are a Faculty and have not done any previous Bias training at UNC, please contact Dr. Ashalla Freeman or Dr. Brenda Mitchell and enroll yourself on the 2.5-hour training on “Unconscious Bias Awareness Workshop”.

2)    DEI Leadership Retreat: Taking Care of Home: “Reimagining, Resetting, and Reintroducing DEI”

3-hour on 02/18/2021. This retreat was directed to Chairs, ACAs/Business Managers, Academic Council, and Diversity Liaisons from all SOM departments. Dr. Brian Strahl (Interim-Chair), Dr. Silvia Ramos (DEI liaison) and Ms. Lynn Ray (Associate Chair for Admin Research) from BCBP department participate. The purpose was: a) To reintroduce the OIE and share how we can support SOM leadership DEI efforts b) To support SOM leaders with navigating their DEI blind spots to enhance their leadership decisions c) To support SOM leaders with promoting a culture of Access and Success and a Climate that enhances DEI efforts.

The format was:
Part 1 (Large group): Reintroducing DEI in the SOM
Part 2 (Large & Small groups random): Identity, intersectionality, and our blind spots
Part 3 (Large and Small groups with departments): § Access and Success § Climate
As a final product Dr Strahl and Dr Ramos prepared a document on Five Key areas that the BCBP is concentrating to Recruit and Hire Individuals from Underrepresented Groups

3)    DEI 2-day training offered to SOM DEI liaisons

on April 1st and 2nd 2021. Dr Silvia Ramos, DEI liaison for BCBP department attended and participate on the Racial Equity Institution Phase 1,  “Foundations in Historical and Institutional Racism” by the Racial Equity Institute.
