Actionable steps toward equity in STEM

September 10, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Discussion with Starlette Sharp, Penn State University and John Matsui, PhD, UC Berkeley

In this interactive discussion, using a combination of presentations, case studies, and breakouts, you will work with colleagues to develop and refine your command of Conceptual Frameworks and the Challenges and Opportunities relevant to our work to make our disciplines more inclusively excellent. Rather than promising ‘answers’ or a ‘tool box,’ our goal is for you to leave the workshop with concepts and critical questions that will help you see the problem with ‘new eyes,’ hopefully enabling you to more effectively identify and change existing practices, policies, beliefs, and assumptions that maintain inequities in STEM.

Actionable steps toward equity in STEM

An initiative sponsored by the Society for the Advancement in Biology Education Research (SABER) focused on promoting awareness, understanding and
commitment to change academic biology environments to be more inclusive and strive for racial justice in STEM education. We are excited that speakers will be
compensated for their time and this event is co-sponsored by Arizona State University’s HHMI Inclusive Excellence Project, SEISMIC Collaboration, and University
of California Santa Barbara.

This is the 2nd in a 7 part series. All talks will be posted on the SABER website following the event.
