BCBP Seminar: Daniel Isom, PhD (University of Miami)

April 18, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Daniel G. Isom, Ph.D. Assistant Professor

Daniel Isom PhD

Assistant Professor, Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology, University of Miami

Talk title “Proton gating of GPCR signaling”

Host: Henrik Dohlman

Professor Dan Isom earned his PhD in Biophysics from Johns Hopkins and was a postdoc in the Dohlman lab. During his time at UNC Dan published papers in Molecular Cell, PNAS and JBC where he showed that G proteins have an unexpected and important role as direct sensors of pH-stress during nutrient limitation, and that there is an important electrostatic path linking neurotransmitter binding to cell surface receptors and their cognate G proteins inside the cell. For this work Dan was given the Joseph S. Pagano Award, given annually by the Lineberger Cancer Center, for “best paper by a postdoctoral fellow”. He is now Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at University of Miami.

Dan will present his seminar on “Proton gating of GPCRs signaling” today at 11 am, 1131 Bioinformatics.
