April 25 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Title: “Protein stability in living cells & under crowded conditions in vitro”
Gary Pielak PhD, Kenan Distinguished Professor, Chemistry and Biochemistry and Biophysics
Host: In-house speaker
Gary J. Pielak, Ph.D. will be our speaker for the 2023 spring semester on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. The title of his seminar is “Protein stability in living cells & under crowded conditions in vitro.”
Dr. Pielak is a Kenan Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biophysics at UNC-CH and a founding member of the UNC Molecular and Cellular Biophysics Program. After earning a B.A. in Chemistry from Bradley University and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Washington State University, Gary did postdoctoral stints with Michael Smith at UBC and RJP Williams at Oxford before joining UNC in 1989 as an assistant professor of chemistry. Gary’s research focuses on high-resolution protein NMR studies in living cells and the biophysics of tardigrade desiccation-tolerance proteins.
